What Causes Severe Swelling And Pain In The Back Of My Knee?
I have severe swelling and pain in the back of my knee and my calf is tender. This started Friday with the severe swelling. The knee pain started on Labor Day. I cannot bend my knee because of the pain and swelling and it is difficult to walk because of the pain. I made a drs appt for Wednesday, Sept. 24th, but not sure I can wait that long to see someone. Could this just be a Baker s cyst or something more serious? I have elevated, iced and wrapped my knee, but nothing seems to work. I am a 47 year old female.
I have studied your case and I think you are right in thinking that it is backer cyst. I think that you are having severe knee arthritis and that it is casing herniation of fluid through back of knee. I would recommend you to get a MRI of the knee joint to confirm the diagnosis and than according to that we can plan for further management. If there is backer cyst and it is hurting than I would recommend you to meet a arthroscopic surgeon and plan for a key hole surgery, in which this part can be reomoved through a small opening with out a big cut. Also in future ,you need to take regular calcium and vitamin D3 and do physiotherapy.
