What Causes Sharp Lower Abdominal Pain Despite Having IBS?

I am an 18 year old female. Two days ago I started having sharp pains in my lower right abdomen. I brushed it off as I have IBS and abdominal pain is common for me. The nest day I felt okay when I woke up but then the pain returned. It came in bursts throughout the day when it would be very sharp and stabbing but then doe down to a burning sensation. Today, I have not had as many sharp pains but have had a burning feeling all day. I have also been nauseous and had mild diarrhea. I do not think these symptoms are due to my IBS as I have never had symptoms lasting this long. Should I go to an emergency room or wait until Monday to see my regular doctor?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sharp lower abdominal pain despite having IBS which seems to be due to disturbance of electrolytic balance of body due to excessive production of acid and it could be due to food intolerance, food allergy , bacterial or viral infection. Need not to worry. You should take small quantity of food and avoid large intake at a single time. You should avoid intake of outside food. Keep your bed with head on higher side. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like ornidazole , albendazole , omeprazole along with loperamide. You should eat light and non spicy , eat fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fruits like banana. Take oral rehydrating solution as well.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
