Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sharp Pain Behind The Ear And Tingling Sensation On The Scalp?
I have had an MRI, a bone scan and a CT Scan of the body to try to indentify why the back of my skull has moth eaten appearance, with scalloped edges . All reports, blood test and urine tests have come back negative...This is a great thing!! However, I have sharp pains, tingly scalp and pain behind my right ear. What other tests should I consider?
Parasthesias like burning/tingling on the scalp can be due to several reasons.
Dandruff, eczema of the scalp, or diseases affecting nerves like diabetes, vitamin B12 deficiency. In some patients, anxiety, and stress can trigger such symptoms.
Eczema and dandruff usually will be associated with hair loss. Since you are complaining of the tingling only on a dime-sized area more serious condition like stroke is not a concern.
Physical examination, blood sugar levels, vitamin B12 levels, complete blood count are warranted at this point. Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
