What Causes Sharp Pain In Knee Which Radiates To Knee Cap?

age 49 female 145 pounds 5 weeks of sharp right sided knee pain that radiates to the knee cap. Wakes me up every night. Tried ice packs, rest, and Advil. No relief. Best thing is to get up and walk around. No redness or swelling. Not related to knee injury. Doesn t matter what I ve done during the day- still the same problem at night.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Night pain is specific for tuberculosis of the bones. TB bone is insidious in onset, and is usually associated with weight loss, in general as well as of the affected part. You need to get blood investigations as well as x ray of your knee and if suspicious of TB on investigations then knee aspiration and culture and sensitivity for TB.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
