What Causes Sharp Pain In Right Abdomen While Treating Gestational Diabetes?

I am a 31y/o white female, 35 wks and 5 days pregnant. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have been placed on bed rest for elevated blood pressure. It generaly hovers around 140/90 but has gone as high as 157/105. I have had a headache for about a week which acetaminophen does not help. I am having back pain in my mid to upper back, I sometimes have a sharp pain in my upper right abdomen, I have been having braxton hicks contractions for about a week (randomly) and my vision is somewhat blurry. I also have a tight feeling in my chest. My baby is measuring to be about 7lbs and is in perfect health according to all sonograms. The specialist I see sent me to the hospital for my liver enzymes being twice the normal range and recommended inducing. My normal doctor re-ran the tests and has me admitted for monitoring because he didn t feel that the results warranted inducing. They just re-ran the tests and I was told that my platelets are 170, AST is 43 and ALT is 77. Should I push for inducing? They already are planning on indcing at 37 weeks and I feel awful and like something is wrong. Everyone says to trust your instincts, but I want to make sure my baby is healthy.

Hi,

High blood pressure combined with stomach pains, tight feeling in the chest and blurry vision is indicative of preeclampsia. This is a condition which can be lethal to both you and the child. I highly urge you to URGENTLY contact medical services, this is to be viewed as a medical emergency!

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
