When I was 12 years old, I spent several weeks in the hospital getting all kinds of tests done due to very severe abdominal pains. They ultimately said I had a spastic colon and I was basically told to eat foods high in fiber, avoid stress and anxiety (my home life was very difficult...,) and I was prescribed a drug called Bentyl, which I only took for a few weeks (because of my home life situation.) I have struggled with this spastic colon and BM problems ever since and I am now in my 40s. I believe it is now commonly called IBS. My eating habits have never been great. My stomach throbs and pains me almost constantly, but I ve never gotten further medical attention because I believe it is IBS, thus I know the typical recommended remedies. My husband or I will often rub and massage the throbbing knots in my upper abdomen and that usually brings some relief. However, for the past several weeks I have had a new very sharp pain in my upper left side that feels like I am being sporadically punched from the inside out. The pain is sharp and intense and really hurts. The punch can range from every few seconds for a long period of time, to once or twice a few times a day. My question: could this new pain be just more IBS symptoms or could it be something more serious? Perforated something perhaps?
