What Causes Sharp Throat Pain Post A Tonsillectomy?

Hi, I just had my tonsils out on the 4th of July and for the last day I ve been having a lot of sharp pains in my throat. I know that pain is expected after a tonsillectomy, but I haven t been able to eat anything all day and I m starting to worry. The medicine I was prescribed isn t working and when I swallow it feels like I m swallowing pins. I m not sure if it s just the scabs coming off or something more serious. Can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The pain in the throat after tonsilectomy is completely normal as you mentioned in the query.

I suggest to use anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain.

If the symptoms continue, I suggest to check an ENT specialist for further evaluation.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
