What Causes Short Of Breath And Heartburn After Taking Zithromax?

Got a virus a few weeks ago, tried sinus meds., then cold/cough medicine. No avail. Five days ago, a doctor gave me 5 Zithromax caplets at 250mg. each. Took the last one tonight. Still feel short of breath. At times it gets real bad, like my heart races because my air is blocked. Like an indigestible, heartburn problem. I have taken a few heartburn pills too at times.

Hello. Good day. Thanks for writing to HCM. I am Dr Sarika and I will be answering your query today.
Azithromycin is known to cause severe gastritis and you are experiencing that. You should take a medication for gastritis (heart burn) like omeprazole 20mg twice a day for 5 days or so. It will resolve. You also need to drink plenty of water to nullify the side effects of hyperacidity. If its still worse you may take an antacid like gaviscon 15 ml after food for an couple of days. The next time you need to take azithromycin you should take omeprazole along with it.
Wishing you good health.
Warm regards.
