What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Increased Heart Rate?

The last four nights in a row, i have had shortness of breath and a hard heartbeat that is more elevated than the daytime or what is normal for me. No medications or anxiety, no change in diet. My resting heart rate is usually about 65 bpm, but at night it hits about 75-80 and it beats hard, i can feel it sitting still without checking my pulse. I can go to the doctor but I am concerned enough that I may need to go to the ER where I know they can do an EKG or other tests now instead of waiting to see a cardiologist. Any advice?

Hi,

Heart rate of 75 to 80 is not that much high and does not indicate any significant disease condition. No need to rush to ER and you can consult a cardiologist and get an ECG done only in case of persistent symptoms.

Avoid unwanted stress and anxiety as they can provoke palpitations and rapid heart rate.

Hope I have answered your query.
