What Causes Shortness Of Breath With Pain In Chest And Lower Back ?

ok, i am a 65 year old male, i smoke about a pack of cigarettes a week, drink once a week and i am 235 lbs at 6 tall. This past week, i have experienced tightness in my upper chest area, lower back pain and occasional shortness of Breath. I have a doctors appt tomorrow, however, a few of my friends say that i should go to the ER. My problem with this is the fact that the doctors office said that i could wait until tomorrow and i am looking for another opinion.

Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your complains there is a strong suspicion of dealing with ischemic heart episodes. Sure, you need a cardiological check up (physical exam, ECG, chest X ray, cardiac ultrasound and some blood tests (including cardiac enzymes) to rule out acute chest problems (unstable angina, pulmonary embolism, aortic disorders). I recommend you to immediately consult ER if symptoms keep getting aggravated.
