What Causes Slow Urine Flow?

I have a problem of slow urine flow. Also, it takes little time before it starts. But, there is no pain. Also, i only wake up once in a night for urine & not frequantly. I am male & age 58 years, When I checked with Doctor, i was suggested Omnic Ocas, 0.4 mg. However, i feel that i was very dull with less sexual feeling, when i took the medicine for one month & i was told that i have to take this medicine for ever. I do not want to continue medicine because of this reason. IF i discontinue it, will it be ok.

Hello dear
Understand your concern.
I think you have problem of prostatic gland enlargement.
Enlargement of prostate compress the prostatic urethra result in disturbance in urinary flow and slow urine flow.
It also cause sexual problem due to ejaculation problem.

You should not discontinue the drug without consulting the urologist.
You should undergo following test
Rectal examination
Prostatic profile
Trans urethral endoscopy
PSA, Seminal fluid analysis.
USG of pelvis.

If prostatic enlargement is there first you should control it by medicine
A. tamsulosin, an alfa blocke
It causes relaxation of muscle of prostate and help in urination.
Following are the detail of tamsulosin:
1. It should be started with 0.4 mg /day orally
2. If symptoms does not improve after 2-4 week, dose should be increased maximum 0.8 mg /day orally
3. If you discontinue the drug again you should have to start with 0.4 mg day.
4. Take capsule half an hour after your meal.
5. Do not crush the capsule
6. If you have renal/liver disease, tell your doctor.
7. Regular testing of Renal damage and live profile.

B. Proscar inhibit the conversion of testosterone to active dehydrotestosterone (DHT).
DHT is involved in development of Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
So It decreased DHT and improve symptoms.

C. Hormone replacement therapy

If not respond to medicine and do not want to take medicine
Better to do surgery: Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP)

Hope this may help you.
Wish you good health.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
