What Causes Slurred Speech While On Nortriptyline?
My father has what is called intractable hiccups. He is taking 1 50mg nortriptyline pill daily. Today is a bad day for him. The hiccups started on Wednesday and are still going strong and are affecting his speech. . This morning he woke up confused and having conversations with someone not in the room. Just not acting his normal self. This has happened before. The doctors are confused and aren t really sure why the hiccups come and go and why they affect him the way they do. Need some help. He does have GERD and some erosion problem with his esophagus and is pre-diabetic.
The most common reason for hiccup is hyperacidity and it needs to be corrected first. A local anesthetic agent containing antacid can be tried. Secondly, it could be due to irritation of the diaphragm and the cause of it is unknown, some sedative can be tried for that. Most of the time it is the self-limiting condition and in very rare condition surgical intervention requires.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Akhtarhusain,
