What Causes Slurred Speech?

My 78 year old sister has been having difficulty speaking and talks like she has had a stroke. She has been to several Dr s and had many tests. They did not find any answers. Now they say it is nerves and stress. She does have daily stress with a bi-polar adult daughter and a selfish and demanding 85 year old husband. Can stress cause this? Pat
