What Causes Smelly Mucous Glob?

My husband coughed up a smelly mucous glob. It sounded like Tonsil stones but he hasn t had tonsils since he was 4 years old. He does have GERD (& is on meds). Since he has coughed up this gross object, he no longer feels the need to clear something out of his throat. It has been months of him coughing to clear his throat and now he has relief. He had an endoscopy in April. Could this have been the cause? I read that bacteria could get stuck in the vellecula. Can you get stones from that part of your throat? He feels better now, but should I have him follow up with a DR?

HI
Well come to HCM
I appreciate your concern, this is may not be tonsillitis and not the stone of this, and may not be due to GERD, but this could be allergic cough may be with some secondary bacterial infection, in my opinion this can be best treated with Tab Loratidine with pseudoephedrine three times in day with Tab ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice in day for 5 days, hope this information helps.
