What Causes Soft Gooey Stool?

I am having soft gooey stool and don't seem to be able to empty my bowel. I am a colon cancer survivor, rectum and at least a foot of descending colon removed. Am not consistent except that it usually takes numerous attempts over a couple of days to feel as tho' I'm done, then have a day or two of nothing. This current symptom has been going on for a few days now.
