What Causes Sore Throat And Swelling Under The Jaw While On Clindamycin?

I had an abcessed wisdom tooth removed Friday morning. When I went to my dentist that morning I already had swelling under my jaw and a sore throat prior to beginning the medicine. I was prescribed and have been taking clindamycin HCL 300mg Cap, first dose was around 10:30 am Friday. Later that evening I started experiencing 101 degree fever, chills, body aches. I was feeling somewhat better Saturday but later that night fever again, chills, body aches. Today, feeling a lot better. Tonight fever is only 99.4 but I am still experiencing body aches. I also have 3 or 4 tiny pin point dots on my face. The swelling under my jaw is going down but throat is still sore when swallowing (as before beginning medicine). I just read the side effects. I plan to continue this medicine until morning and probably call my dentist or go to my family doctor. Advice?

Hi..
Thank for the query..

As you had abscess in the wisdom tooth therefore sore throat, fever and body aches are all due to infection that has progressed from the wisdom tooth site to the blood..
Do not worry as you are already taking antibiotics, so it will get better soon..
You should continue taking antibiotic Clindamycin and along with it you can also start taking a combination of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen to reduce fever and pain..
Do warm saline gargles and take sufficient rest..
If still there is no improvement in a week consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.
