What Causes Sore Throat With Raised Bumps On Roof The Mouth?

My 7 year old son was complaining about a sore throat. After inspecting with a flashlight, I noticed a quarter-sized area of really small pin-prick-size red (not raised) dots (think very light hicky) on the roof of his mouth towards the throat. After confirming with him that it is not his throat that is sore and that the discomfort is actually originating from the roof of his mouth, I am baffled as to what this might be. He has no fever, is not complaining of any other symptoms and is in otherwise excellent health. Any idea as to what this might be?

Hi....By what you quote I feel that it could be ulcers over the soft palate and if it is so I am very sure that it could be a viral illness called - HERPANGINA. It is a self limiting viral illness and exept for symptomatic treatment you need not use anything else.

If there is pain or fever - Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F or sever pain. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.

For oral ulcers - Zytee gel for local application over the ulcers.
