What Causes Soreness At The Back Of The Throat?

My son ate some chicken( half a fillet) which tasted odd, he looked into the oven he cooked it in, first time using it in his rented house and can see oven cleaner that wasn't cleaned off, he feels ok, back of his troath is a little sore. Should he wait and see how he feel or go to the emmergency room?

Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain slight soreness in throat after eating chicken which was contaminated with oven cleaner but with no severe symptoms is not needed to be worried for as it can be due to irritation of throat with the cleaner while at times hard foods or spicy food can also cause irritation in throat.

As of now he can do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day and in case if the symptoms exaggerate he can consult an ENT expert and get evaluated to rule out for probable bacterial or viral infection and will be treated accordingly.
