What Causes Sores On The Face And Mouth While On Lyrica?

My 94 year old Mother was prescribed gabapentin ( 300 mg) for numbness and pain in her feet. She had a CT scan of her back which showed some disintegrating discs in her lower back. After only taking the prescription for a few days, she developed a terrific headache ( pounding) . After calling the Doctor, he then prescribed Lyrica instead of the gabapentin. ( 75 mg - twice a day) . She is not sure if these are effective, and also has developed sores on her face and mouth, and has become highly agaitated and mentally confused over the past month. She is hesitant in calling the Dr. ...thinking he will prescribe something else. Any thoughts ? Joanne

Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Lyrica shows a range of side effects out of which constipation, hives / sores/ rash on skin & sores in mouth & throat are the effects concerned looking at your mother's problems.
* In case her feet pain is benefited with Lyrica... these side effects can be managed well by few life style changes like-
- Management of constipation by changed eating habits with sufficient fibers & water in diet , multiple, Small & frequent ( every 3 hours) servings of food & supplements of Folic acid& B complex, probiotics ( Lactobacilli )would help oral hygiene & health
-Vitamin C, E D would help skin health.
* In case of no relief of side effects/ no relief from foot symptoms- she needs re consultation of neuro physician for changed dosage / drug.
