What Causes Spots On The Face In A Child Suffering From Cold?

my 3 yr old son has had a cold (very stuffy dry nose) for about 2 weeks and in the last week or so he s had little spots on his face. Every day one seems to go and another appear somewhere else on his face. Nowhere else on his body though. could it just be the virus working its way around?
