What Causes Stiffness And Pain In The Joints Of Hips And Shoulders?
I am 52, female and in the last 6 months I have noticed in the morning or after sitting a while I m stiff and its hard to move. My joints ( hip and shoulder) have pain when sleeping or certain movements. My feet and ankles started hurting in the last month as well. I am active but this discomfort is slowing me down. What are some possible reasons? Thank you.
Stiffness and pain in joints can be an indication of rheumatoid arthritis. One of the most common symptoms of Rheumatoid arthritis is morning stiffness which reduces as the day progresses. Rheumatoid arthritis mostly affects small joints like interphalangeal joints and ankle joints. It can diagnose with a simple blood test and physical examination. Osteoarthritis is also common at your age and occurs due to bone degeneration. It can diagnose on x-ray. I would advise you to get yourself checked by an orthopedic. Meanwhile, you can take an over the counter painkiller like naproxen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
