What Causes Stiffness And Swelling In The Calf Muscles?
After a work out about a month ago, I think I strained my Achilles. Since then it aches at rest some times and is swollen all the time. I ve done some 4 to 8 mile hikes and it s fine when I do that but afterwards, and especially in the morning, it is very, very tight. More swollen after hikes or walking. When I sit at my computer for a while, it s also stiff when I get up. Thoughts?
Calf hardness and pain are the symptoms of veins thrombosis. It does not mean that you have it, however it should be ruled out at first. Typical veins thrombosis symptoms are hard and painful calf which can be warmer than the other one. No fever is present. The pain is more intense when walking.
It is also possible that during the exercising you have injured calf muscle (it may be partially torn). Symptoms might be the same as veins thrombosis.
That is why I suggest you consult your doctor. IN case of veins thrombosis suspicion, D-dimers level and Dopplers veins ultrasound should be done. Heparin injection is the main treatment of it.
