What Causes Stiffness Around The Ankles And Feet?

What could be wrong with me? I am a 48 year old female great health until the last year or so. From my hips down I have extremely stiff and tight muscles, even around my ankles and in the bottom my feet. I have been going to physical therapy, yoga weekly, and daily stretches but I do not feel like I am relieving the problem or becoming more flexible. The muscles in my hips and near sit bones are very achy. I have a lot of discomfort when I sit for a short period of time. MRI of lumbar and hips shows nothing abnormal. I am on an anti-inflammatory twice a day and turmeric once a day. The only thing that gave me some relief has been a cortisone injection I had 4 weeks ago in both hips-- in the piriformis muscle. Due for another injection next week. In the last few weeks I ve also started feeling a funny sensation in my lower legs, ankles, and feet. It is hard to explain but feels a little tingly as if my legs were slightly asleep and waking up and also like some fluid or something is running through them trying to push out of my skin. I have no swelling or fluid anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Loose stools associated with blood is suggestive of dysentery. Dysentery is caused by gastrointestinal tract infection with certain infectious agents. Explosive diarrhea is characterized by passage of large amounts of water and flatulence. Explosive diarrhea can occur due to acute exaggeration of chronic diarrhea.

The symptoms you describe may be caused by medical conditions like: peripheral neuropathy, hip/lower back osteoarthritis, ionic/metabolic imbalances, and fibromyalgia. Such pains may always be relieved by steroid shots like cortisone injection, though I do not encourage chronic use of steroids. However, other treatment options may include: different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, and physiotherapy. I will suggest you:
•     Take a myorelaxant like Miorel
•     Take an anti-inflammatory like aceclofenac
•     Continue with physiotherapy

If symptoms persist, you see the doctor for examination and other treatment options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
