What Causes Stiffness In Knee Area While Walking?

Last January 2015 I fell and broke my left femur bone. I was just discharged from my orthopedic surgeon as he said my x-rays looked great and I healed well. My problem still is that when I walk my knee area feels stiff and he said it could take up to a year for muscle and everything to get back to normal. I do leg exercises every day and I m still walking outside the house with a cane for balance. I m in no pain but just curious to see if there is anything else I can do to help the stiffness in the knee area or am I being impatient. Thank you. Jayleen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Jayleen.

Go for physiotherapy and request for stretching exercises to help improve your range of motion, your doctor was right as it does take some amount of time for the entire skeletomusculature to heal and return to normal function, be patient.

Best wishes.
