What Causes Stiffness In Neck And Left Shoulder After Taking Aspirin And Metoprolol?

about 1 pm I was experiencing a little chest discomfort so I took my baby aspirin and my metoprolol and just sat and waited for discomfort to subside - it pretty much did. then at 2 pm I took a shower to get ready for work (I am a CNA) and when I got out I started noticing my left neck and back of my left shoulder were stiffening up. Not sure what that is all about. I went to work and had myself replaced and now I am home again. Could the 2 things be related??

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have stiffness in neck and left shoulder after taking Aspirin and Metoprolol. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like tendinitis , disc problem , cervical spondylosis or trapezius muscle problem . It can also occur as side effects of certain medicine , as in your case it is alo possible that the symptoms are due to metoprolol. So consult cardiologist and discuss the condition . Doctor may alter the dose or prescribe substitute . I would suggest you to apply warm compresses on shoulder and neck several times a day , do light stretching exercises of neck and shoulder and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI along with physical examination. Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and vitamin supplement like omega3 fatty acid .Doctor may also recommend physical therapy or recommend surgery in severe damage .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
