What Causes Stomach Bloating With Fishy Smell In Stool?
My mother who is 80 years of age and has had a stroke that has left her unable to speak or move has been having bowel movements that are clear and jelly like in consistency. This has been going on for a year and the doctors have no idea what is causing this. She is eating normally but there is only the gel coming out. Her stomach is bloated and hurts. I also noticed a fishy smell today from her feces. Please help.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Stomach bloating is due to change in gut commensal bacteria being changed to gas forming bacteria. 2. Probiotics taken regularly can change the bacteria to normal commensal and will reduce gas production. 3. Also soluble fiber diet from fruits and vegetables needs to be added. Insoluble fibers, increase risk of gas production. 4. Low fiber and increased gas production can lead to fishy smell in stools. Increase soluble fiber and probiotics intake. It will help. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
