Good morning
Sad to learn about your mother's complaints
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease and can affect any part of the body. Stomach complaints are common in people with diabetes and it can reflect the problem in the autonomic nerves supplying the intestines and stomach. This results in motlity (movement) related problems in them causing these sort of cramps and pulling sensation. There can be increase in the bacterial flora in the intestines causing these symptoms. Usually clinicians address these issues by giving empiric treatment or after doing investigations like nuclear medicine scintigraphic scans or breath tests. Blood glucose control is very important in these people. I would like to highlight that certain newer antidiabetic medications like liraglutide can also increase this motility problems. Also these people are not immune to other unrelated causes which can be picked up on investigations. The motility problems and gastroparesis in diabetics are usually addressed with prokinetic medications (like domperidone, itopride like medications etc) with or without omeprazole.

Hope your mother gets speedy recovery and would love to answer any further questions
