Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Stomach Discomfort And Soreness On Ingestion?
When I swallow food, and some types of drinks, recently I've been getting discomfort (indigestion) right beneath my last right rib. In fact, when I kind of massage fingers into belly just where rib and stomach area is I got a slight soreness in the area. It's not painful much at all just a new discomfort. I'm 46, white, male and so very very fortunate to have no health issues I'm aware of usually get a check every 2 years or so but because of out of work I haven't had check up other than yearly eye check up and donating blood. I have no health care insurance.
The given symptoms could be due to dyspepsia and it could be associated with hyperacidity here. In your case, possibility of gastric ulcer need to be ruled out although is less likely but cannot be avoided.
Before you go for the test to confirm the diagnosis, I would advise you to try medicine called PPI (Proton pump inhibitor) and the best option is tablet Rabiprazole once in day and it needs to be taken for four weeks.
One more thing, if you get some relief in symptoms, then you can continue the suggested medicine without testing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akhtarhusain
