Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Stomach Pain And Vomiting After Gastric Bypass Surgery?
I had a gastric bypass (RNY) six years ago and had done wonderfully. About a month ago, I started having stomach pains and began throwing up any dense foods. This has continued for several weeks and now my belly is extremely swollen, I have uncomfortable gripy, pin prickly sensations in my upper bowels, and despite throwing up, I have gained ten pounds during this time. I originally lost 215 pounds and have successfully kept the weight off until this episode.
I am not sure what you mean by dense foods. After gastric bypass surgery it is necessary to eat smaller, more frequent meals and I do not have enough information from your description to know if that is what you are doing. The weight gain and swelling in your abdomen is concerning. I would advise to eat smaller meals and if swelling and weight gain do not improve, to have and upper endoscopy done by a gastroenterologist to verify that all is well in the stomach, lining and with previous bypass. Best regards
