What Causes Stomach Pain While On Metoprolol Tartrate?
My hubby was scheduled to have an ablation of the heart on Wednesday, but after the doctors the procedure, they could not go any further because they said the veins were occluded, or there was something blocking the instruments from going up. He suffers from hearth palpatations and has had blood clots in the past. He is currently taking Eloquis, and they started him yesterday on Metoprolol Tartrate (25mg) He was released from the hospital yesterday, and today he has been complaining of lower stomach pain. I suggest he call the doctor, or go to the emergency room, but he refuses. Please advise. Thanks. My email is YYYY@YYYY
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since the procedure done for ablation was abandoned there has to be a reason. The pain in lower abdomen may not be related to the procedure, it is still imperative to visit ER for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like ultrasonography, X-ray of abdomen and tests of blood, stool and urine. This will allow the proper diagnosis and management. Metoprolol may not be the cause of pain in abdomen. May also need a CT scan of abdomen to see for any vascular involvement. In the absence of detailed history, I would strongly recommend a visit to ER.
