General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Prednisone causes gastritis and gastric ulcers as it blocks the formation of protective prostaglandins. So, I recommend that you continue Nexium and add Zantac twice daily. To stop the steroids or not depends on why you use them in the first place. I recommend upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and occult blood in stool test to exclude micro-hemorrhage from gastritis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahmoud Abouibrahim
