What Causes Stomach To Swell And Comes Down After Sometime?
My girlfriends stomach swells up from time to time to the point where she looks 9 month pregnant. Sometimes it goes down in an hour and other times it takes several hours. We went to the ER twice in the past 6 monrhs. They had us there all night and ran all the test and no answers at all. They said everything looked fine. Any idea what may cause this? or what kind of specialist we should see? thx

A gaseous distension of abdomen may be due to:
1. Acute gastritis
2. Food intolerance
3. Malabsorption syndromes
4. Inflammatory bowel problems
5. Paralytic Ileus et cetera
Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your gastroenterologist, he/she will examine and treat you accordingly.
