What Causes Stomach Upset And Diarrhea In An Elderly Person?

I have had stomach problems for the past 3 weeks...never happened before this long. Sometimes I feel a discomfort in my stomach area other times I feel just fine. For the three weeks I often defecate up to three times in a single day. On more than one occasion I have had diarrhea. Other than this stomach problem I feel fine; no temperature; no other discomfort. I am 78 years old and active. I just moved to Arizona from Maui.

Hi,
The stomach upset along with diarrhea in old age is a point of concern.There are multiple causes of such condition
- Change of residence causing change in food habit & change in water may cause it.
- Old age with decrease in normal food digestion many a time leads to indigestion & multiple motions.
- Infection of bowels ,specially multiple motions alternating with diarrhea is specific of amoebeasis.
* To manage-
Take light food /boiled water.( with salt & sugar if have loose motions )
Get stool examination done to exclude infection.
Consult doctor for specific medicines ( Metranidazole/norfloxicin/digestive enzymes)as per need.
