What Causes Strong Sense Of Smell?

Hi My mother was in the hospital for about 9 days, she suffers from severe migarane. The thought she had a HSV ensifulitis but the spinal tap came back neg. She is out of the hospital and doing more tests, but her sence of smell is so strong and she has not been diagnosed yet.

Thanks for your query.
Noted the history related to your Mother being admitted for 9 days, migraine and thought to be having HSV encephalitis but the spinal tap was negative.
Noe that she has heightened sense of smell.
There is no specific reason for such an occurrence, although this can be thought to be due to enhanced physiological response to the underlying problem in the top of inside of the nose where there are Olfactory nerves.
Or is is possible that the the reduction in the edema at the Olfactory area can give sense of enhanced smell.
I would advise you the following:
Get an opinion and clinical evaluation done by an ENT Surgeon.
Endoscopy of the nose
MRI of the nose, sinuses and the brain.
