What Causes Strong Urine Odor?

Hi, I have noticed that my urine has a fairly strong odour (I am female, 42 yrs). This seems to have started since I have re- commenced doing a small exercise circuit x6 / wk after having done no workouts for over a yr. Could this be the cause, or is likely to be a UTI/bladder infection? Many thanks, AB

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is impossible to say. A urinalysis performed by your own doctor will help settle the case. If you do not experience any other symptoms (urgency, pain with voiding, etc.) treatment for an UTI is not necessary.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General Surgeon Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my surgical experience, the strong urine odor indicates underlying alteration in urine pH with concentrated urine via lack of hydration or excess water loss from work outs.
* Drinking plenty of liquids and adjusting amount of work out will solve the issue promptly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
