What Causes Sudden Bleeding During Early Pregnancy?
Hello, im 11 weeks pregnant and i had bleeding for half a day, but ihad an ultrasound baby all good and happy, but the scan guy said i was bleeding from the bottom of the sac? do you know if this will lead to miscarriage? the bleeding has now stopped
Suggestive of subchorionic hematoma. It is due to accumulation of blood between the uterine lining and the chorion (the outer fetal membrane, next to the uterus) or under the placenta itself. There is nothing to worry as the vast majority of subchorionic hematomas dissolve on their own and usually end in a healthy pregnancy.
However in rare cases, it can cause the placenta to separate from the uterine wall, and it may be linked to a high risk of miscarriage and preterm labor. I advise you to take bed rest and avoid sex until the hematoma dissolves and disappears. Consult your doctor right away if you ever experience vaginal bleeding during pregnancy so that you'll be checked with ultrasounds until the hematoma corrects itself.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
