What Causes Sudden Brief Dizzy Spells?

Yesterday my husband was in the kitchen making ice cream cones for the granddaughters when he suddenly felt dizzy dropped the ice cream cone and sat down. Hearing this I went in and asked him what happened. He said he felt a surge of dizziness and now one eye felt crossed; he was seeing in two places. No pain. I looked at his eyes and they looked normal. It lasted about ten minutes; shook him up. This morning he had a briefer bout with it. He had double knee replacement surgery I 3 months ago which he is fully recovered from. He is a very healthy 68 year old; not overweight. He may have had some kind of traveling virus these last few days the symptoms being achey muscles, swollen lymphs in neck, sinus drainage, and fatigue.
