What Causes Sudden Dizziness And Weakness?

About a month ago, I had an episode of sudden lightheadedness, dizziness and weakness. It went away after about ten minutes and I didn't worry about it. It happened again today while I was out shopping and I thought I was going to fall down, but I kept my feet under me. I got home, but I'm wondering if I should call my doctor, go to urgent care or go to the emergency room. I'm still feeling somewhat lightheaded and "disembodied". I am a 62 year old female in otherwise good health. My email address is YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sudden onset of giddiness may be due to BPPV or acute labyrinthitis or vestibular neurinitis or transient ischemic attack or hypotension or hypoglycemia etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Check your blood pressure, hemoglobin status, check for cardiac functioning, MRI brain, tilt table examination etc.

Avoid high risk activities. Use tablet Diligan.

If symptoms not improved please consult your neurophysician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
