What Causes Sudden Pain Above The Calf?

I have been having fluttering in my left leg, lower thigh and last night I suddenly had a sharp pain behind my leg, just above the calf and felt I couldn t put any weight on it. It is still sore now and I am too scared to try and walk anywhere as I feel I may end up limping.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I think it is due to disc prolapse. Disc are cushion like structure in the spine and some time they get displaced from their position and start compressing nerves. it leads to severe pain in whole leg. I would suggest you to get a MRI of the spine to confirm this diagnosis. If it is proven that there is a herniated disc then you will need following treatment.
1. Tablet Pregabalin and Methylcobal in night
2. when you take rest keep your knee banded so there should not be stretching of the nerves.
3. Back muscle physiotherapy.
4. If pain is very bad you can get steroid injection in the back.
Most of these measures will help you in pain .
