What Causes Swelling And Burning Feeling In Legs And Ankles?

Hi, my lower legs and ankles have been swelling for the past 4 months. They turn red and the inner ankle area has a burning knife cutting feeling in it. I am taking fluid pill to help, but everyday. I am 37, with a busy schedule. I dont have time to lay up all day. I had lots of blood work done. I have had many ultrasounds done none showing blood clots, and ultrasound of heart does not show any sign of heart being bad. The heart is working fine. I have had no injuries. I am not sure what to do next.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Varicose veins of the lower extremities might explain the swelling of your legs and feet if other tests resulted normal (including heart, liver, kidney tests). If this is your case, there is no blood clot, but blood is not circulating appropriately due to bad functioning of the blood vessels valves.

If your work requires sitting or standing for long periods, that makes your things worst. To me, should see angiologist to determine if you have varicose veins and treat them adequately. For the moment, to me should wear special stockings for varicose veins, and apply horse chestnut gel on your legs.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
