Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, A couple of days ago my left ankle randomly swelled up quite significantly and has gotten much worse in terms of swelling and pain. My right ankle also started to swell up really bad too. Now, they’re both swollen and I’m having a hard time walking. Also, my appetite has increased really significantly this past week. I eat way more than I usually do. I also just started my period but it was later than usual and the blood flow is really heavy. A lot more than usual too! And there’s a really strong metallic smell coming from the blood that I have never smelt before. I’m quite concerned because it feels like there’s something wrong with my body.
Most probably it is due to minor contusion or sort that developed following a minor trauma that’s got unnoticed by you.
As of now you can apply ice packs for symptomatic relief.
If swelling persists, you can consult an orthopaedician and get evaluated to look for any thin fracture. An MRI scan may be required.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
