Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 62 year old male, in general good health and a non smoker. I weigh 142 lbs. and have nearly all my life. Height is 5 11 . I ve had a history of lower back problems for about 20 years. The latest and worst occurred a week ago when I simply bent over and felt something give. Long story short, my lower back gradually stiffened with pain..walking or standing became virtually impossible after driving for 10 hours the next day. I ve been wearing a back support belt which helps with pain and mobility, but I ve noticed in the mirror that my lower torso has shifted to my left. Don t know if that s been the case all along or is a result of the injury. There is swelling on my lower right side and back. What s going on?
Hi, From history it seems that there might be having degenerative changes in your lower vertebrae producing osteo-artheritis. There is also possibility of having osteoporosis of bone. Go for x-ray lumbo-sacral region. Go for back extension exercises daily. Avoid weight lifting and bending from back. Take Calcium and Vitamin A and D supplements. Ok and take care.
