What Causes Swelling Around The Ankle In The Same Leg Which Has An Abrasion That Is Slowly Healing?

My doctor prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 mg tb for two weeks. Reason for the prescription is an abrasion on my right leg several weeks prior. While having this abrasion it affected the same leg ankle and swelled. I am a RA patient Enbrel 50mg , plaquenil 200 mg 2x daily. The abrasion is healing slowly after two weeks of antibiotics. The swelling continues but only the evening hours until the next morning when it disappears again. The swelling concerns me. Is this normal ?

Hello and welcome to HCM.
It seems that what I are facing may be because of rheumatoid arthritis flare.
Flare is like worsening of symptoms of RA provoked by stress, injury or certain medication. In your case,it might by because of all these factors.
But you need not worry as it is manageable.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend-
-Tab ibuprofen or naproxen twice a day for 3 days.
-Applying cold compress for 20 min 3-4 times a day till swelling subsides.
- sit or sleep with ankles elevated
-have adequate rest
-practice yoga, meditation to de stress yourself.
If still the symptoms persists, blood tests for checking status of RA will be required .Further action to be taken accordingly.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards
