Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In Ankles, Legs And Excessive Thirst?
I have swelling in my ankles, legs, abs with excessive thirst and passing a lot of urine at night. This has been going on for about a couple of weeks. Any thoughts?Gained about 5 pounds in that time, too. Hx of br ca, hypothyroidism. 58 y.o. 5 2 , between 142 and 150 lbs.
Since you are passing a lot urine at night, either you have overactive bladder, UTI or have high fluid intake, taking caffeine, etc. Excessive thirst may also be indicative of high blood glucose or developing DM. Swelling ankle is triggered by thyroid issues, autoimmune disorders cause affected areas like joints or feet to swell. Certain chemotherapies may cause edema in tissues.
Gain in weight may be due to generalized swelling, take nutritious home made food rich in protein and minerals but low in salt and carbs. You are suggested to do walking and stretch exercises to help better circulation. Do not over strain. Maintain healthy weight. You should get a routine follow up check up done so that any developing pathology can be managed. You will have to get blood tests, urinalysis & if needed imaging tests done.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
