What Causes Swelling In The Bone Of The Ring Finger?

I have a gout attack on the 2nd and 1st falange joint of the ring finger. Now the pain is getting better and swelling lesser. But the bones on the joint are slightly swollen and wider . Will the swelling in the bone also subside and the width of the joint become like before ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually the swelling goes away and the joint is as before. But if permanent damage had occurred and permanent deposition of crystals are there, then unfortunately swelling will go but not get back to normal again.

Should run an X-ray of the joint for confirmation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
