What Causes Swelling In The Face While On Prednisone?

my son age 22, diagnosed w/hypopanpitutary has been taking prednisone 10mgs 1x a day since 2015. We have noticed swelling in his face, hands and arms. In addition, as of last night he has been experiencing extreme burning of his leg muscles. Just curious if the prednisone is causing this. Prior to taking Prednisone he was on Cortef from age 4-20.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The prednisone should not cause burning leg muscles but it may cause fluid retention so the swollen up face. You can talk to his prescribing doctors to see if lowering the dose is an option.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
