What Causes Swelling In The Feet And Knees?

My husband, age 78, has within last month been experiencing swelling in left foot and knee, and wrists... and generally feels very sluggish and tired. Also he went through some shortness of breath. He was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and had shots in knees 2 years ago. This has come on him pretty suddenly the last month. We have an appointment Friday, July 21st with primary for physical exam.

Hi,
Thanks for query. I understand your concern.
* Yes, it seems to be acute flare up of rheumatoid arthritis... that has lead your husband to exhaustion ... which needs a Rheumatologist's expert advise after check up,
Till then, home care--- Let him take rest/ hot & cold packs/ application of anti inflammatory ointments locally ( Pirox gel )/ oral NSAID like Ibuprofen
* The severe pain & sufferings make the patient drained out & exhausted. but please don't worry, a proper approach, healthy food, optimum exercises as per expert advise& good sleep would boost up his energy to have a satisfied life.
Of course , it is possible only after the acute flare up symptoms are controlled.I am happy you have an appointment with expert.
