What Causes Swelling In The Feet Post Amlodipine Intake?
I AM FEMALE 62 YRS OLD ............DIABETIC BUT A1C IS 6.0 ...........JUST THIS WEEK FEET SWELLING AND CAPULARIES BREAKING ON TOP OF FEET ............I HAVE HIGH B/P BUT I MY DR SWITCHED ME FROM BENAZPRIL 10MG TO AMLODIPINE 5MG JUST 3 WEEKS AGO ..........NEVER HAD FEET SWELLING PRIOR TO THIS
I've gone through your query and I believe that amlodipine is the most likely cause of your swelling. Amlodipine is a fine drug for hypertension but leg swelling is one of its commonest (and most annoying) side effects.
There are various ways to go about it. The combination with an ACE-inhibitor (like Benazepril!) may reduce the swelling. Taking amlodipine at night may also result in less swelling.
Since you're taking 5mg I wouldn't recommend a further reduction of the dosage. Finally, the last solution is to substitute amlodipine with another drug of the same class.
- Manidipine is another calcium channel blocker that seems to cause less oedema
- Or drugs from another drug class can be chosen. Remember to consult the treating doctor before attempting any changes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
