What Causes Swelling On My Daughters Public Bone?

My 3.8 year old girl has had a little bit of swelling on her public bone to the left side. It has seemed to go up and down over the past couple of months. She is extremely healthy and has no complaints. We have had some difficulty with potty training for urinating but not extraordinary. Can this just be normal?

hi

thanks for your question

the swelling sounds consistent with an inguinal hernia. if you put your hand over this area and ask her to cough then you should feel and impulse.

if this is the diagnosis an inguinal hernia is usually treated with operative repair.

I hope this answers your question.

best wishes
