What Causes Swollen And Painful Foot?

My mom had tetanus ad is still recuperating at home. She is no longer taking tetanus drugs, but she is taking maintenance drugs for her heart (e.g. blood thinner). She has been bed ridden for almost 2 months. She only started walking a couple weeks. Her feet swell but it s more noticeable in the afternoon. Can you tell me what might be causing the swelling?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Swollen feet on both sides may be due to 1. Kidney problem with fluid retention 2. Failing heart with reduced output 3. Decreased protein level in blood may be due to liver problem or malnutrition. Since your mother was bedridden for the long time her food intake may be low so possibility of low protein is likely. But she is taking medication for heart so heart failure is also there. This is a complex problem and your mother needs to be examined by expert physician and get thoroughly investigated.
